The NAACP Education Committee is responsible for distribution and communication regarding the Annual NAACP Scholarship Applications, Selecting students to be awarded the Scholarships and presentation of the Scholarship Awards.

In 2023, we began providing a one-year complimentary membership to the NAACP Scholarship Winners to encourage their civic involvement and assist them in learning how to be an active empowered citizen. 

In 2024 the NAACP awarded  7 Scholarships to Lake County High School Students.  

In 2023, Lifeline, Inc.  requested that the NAACP annually select one High School Senior to receive a Lifeline, Inc. $1,000 scholarship. 

In 2021, Commissioner John Plecnik provided a $9,000 grant to be used annually to fund a student scholarship in honor of Brownie Lewis.  2024 will be our 3rd year presenting this scholarship award.

 The Purpose of the Education Committee is to:   

(1)  Seek to eliminate segregation and other discriminatory practices in  public education

(2) Study local educational  conditions affecting minority groups

(3) Investigate the public school system and school  zoning

(4)  Familiarize itself with  textbook material therefrom which  is  racially  derogatory 

(5) Seek to stimulate   school attendance

(6)  Keep informed of school conditions and  strive to correct abuses  where found 

(7)  Investigate the effects  of standardized and  high stakes testing  practices

(8) Promote parental involvement in education 

(9) Aim to be a center of popular education on the race question and on the work of the Association
